officer johnson fired from the ground striking roberts who fled. he was later located at a local hotel. sattler sentenced roberts to ten-years with the possibility of parole on the battery charge, but he won't begin serving that sentence until he finishes the remainder of the sentence on the drug charge.### district attorney chris hicks saying today... officers were justified in shooting a wanted man near fourth and spokane streets in september of 2014. james luke bowman was shot and killed by a sparks detective and washoe county detective after pulling a gun on them. bowman was a felon with an outstanding warrant from the u-s marshals service. he had been fleeing from police and had said he was not going to go back to prison. "according to nevada law, when anybody, police or citizen is confronted with a deadly situation such as this, a perfect example is someone pulling a gun on you, it is entirely reasonable to react with deadly

facing many of the schools in washoe county. and you can get involved in the conversation. the public schools "overcrowding and repair needs committee" will be looking at different options for raising the money needed to repair older schools and build new ones to relieve overcrowding. at this week's state of education address, superintendent traci davis made it clear that a solution needs to be found. otherwise, it's going to have a major impact on students. "we understand that if we don't build schools, double sessions is going to happen in the next 5 years." -if the funding isn't there, some schools will have to push two rounds of students through each day. meaning, one shift of earlier start times, and another shift with later start and release times, in order to double a school's capacity. and some campuses could turn year-'round. the committee wants to find a way to avoid these scenarios. the two options they'll be looking at are either sales tax only, or a combination of sales tax

chooses an option, it will likely end up on the 2016 general election ballot. since this would affect all washoe county residents, they're hoping for input from the community. there will be time set aside for public comment at tonight's meeting. it starts in an hour- and-a-half, at six... so you have time to get there. it's at the washoe county administration complex.### students attending a local beauty school received devastating news today: their school, marinello school of beauty, closed its doors permanently. the u-s department of education says it will no longer provide student loans to marinello beacause the school was providing federal aid to students with invalid high school diplomas. other complaints include marinellos under-awarded title- four-aid, charged students for excessive overitme -and engaged in other acts of

more than 100-students scrambling for a place to finish their training. beauty school paul mitchell says it has talked to 25 marinello students and are willing to take even more. doug christensen/paul mitchell the school reno: they have all been very positive, with lots of tears, lots of smiles, and hopefully, a little bit of hope for the future. nevada's board of cosmetology says it is waiting for the school to provide student hours. such information will allow the students to enroll in other programs and complete their training.### reno police and several city officials paid a visit to a downtown reno motel complex... after receiving several complaints. "hey, it's reno police." knocking city officials say they've recieved numerous calls for service at the reno legacy motel on north virginia street. inside, police and code enforcement officials found several code violations including cooking in the hallways, evidence of pests and a lack of ongoing maintenance. today's operation was part of a larger intiative by the mayor

blight.### the iowa caucuses are over but, due to his strong showing, the results placed a target on marco rubio's back. with the next contest in new hampshire just days away, candidates are attacking rubio and scrambling to get their own message across. marci gonzalez is in manchester with the latest. that's not quite the 700-jobs projected in a september 2014 report lawmakers used to approve a one-billion dollar tax incentive package for the electric carmaker. tesla also said it's invested 374-million-dollars in capital in nevada... well below the early prediction of one- billion-dollars. economic development officials attribute the discrepancy to tesla building in phases rather than all at once. the company says they still plan to employ 65-hundred people at peak production.### n-v energy could be getting some competition if a new political action committee gets their way. "nevadans for affordable, clean energy choices" have filed a petition, with the nevada secretary of state's office to change the state constitution and end the monopoly on electric services. the measure would also make it easier for other

the us olympic committee tells abc news it is keeping a close eye on the situation and that team usa participants will be made "aware of the cdc's recommendations regarding travel to brazil." especially for olympic athletes like michael phelps - whose pregnant fiance is among the most at risk population. zika has been linked to the a severe birth defect, microcephaly, when pregnant women get infected. while the u.s. women's soccer team is focusing on qualifying for the rio olympics, head coach jill ellis tells the dallas morning news the zika outbreak is "concerning." over the next two weeks brazil has a trial run ... it's carnival season and tourist are coming in from around the globe. it's also summer and mosquito season. dr. richard besser, abc news, brazil. the super bowl is almost here and the casinos in town are getting ready to throw a big bash. the silver legacy is kicking things off early by having mike tyson perform his one man show saturday night.
